Bill Belichick is the new head coach for the UNC Tar Heels football team. He signed a 5-year deal.
Belichick is an 8-time Super Bowl champion. He’s never coached in college, so it’s going to be an interesting challenge for him.

“I am excited for the opportunity at UNC-Chapel Hill,” Belichick said. “I grew up around college football with my dad and treasured those times. I have always wanted to coach in college, and now I look forward to building the football program at Chapel Hill.”
It’s a full-circle moment for Belichick since his dad was an assistant coach for the Tar Heels for three seasons in the 1950s. It’s a dream come true for Belichick.
Belichick is committed to excellence. His resume speaks for itself.
Lee H. Roberts, UNC’s chancellor, expresses his excitement about bringing Belichick to the program.
“This is an exciting day for Carolina Football and our University,” Roberts said. “Carolina is committed to excellence and to creating an opportunity to succeed in everything we do, from the classroom to the field of competition,’’ Roberts said in a school-issued statement.

Belichick, 72, has spent his year away from the sideline doing multiple media jobs while making it clear he wanted to return to coaching.
Two people who are linked to Belichick, Michael Lombardi and Belichick’s son Stephen, will most likely join him in North Carolina.
Belichick and the Tar Heels will not win right away. The program still needs to recruit players and build team chemistry.
The hiring of Belichick could change the landscape of college sports.
What Dean Smith did for UNC Tar Heels basketball, Belichick might do the same for college football. Players will want to play for NFL history’s greatest and most successful coach.
