Packers’ Jayden Reed Out for Season After Neck Surgery

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed will miss the rest of the season after season-ending neck surgery.

According to head coach Matt LaFleur, the surgery is not “career-threatening.” The Packers, who started the season with a plethora of injuries, now have more problems.

The 26-year-old got drafted by the Packers in the second round (50th overall pick) in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Michigan State. Reed and the Packers recently signed a three-year extension in April. Reed had 24 receiving yards on four catches in two games this season. It’s his fourth season with the Packers.

Reed led the Packers in receiving yards in the first two seasons. In those two seasons, Reed combined for 1,650 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns. His numbers dropped last season. Reed played just seven games and finished with 207 receiving yards and one touchdown. He did that because he suffered a broken collarbone in Week 2 and also had a foot injury.

It’s devastating that Reed is missing another season because of injuries. The Packers will look for other weapons to fill Reed’s void.

Christian Watson must be the Packers’ top receiver for the rest of the season. Watson had four touchdowns and 284 receiving yards on 17 receptions. Watson is in the top five this season in touchdowns and receiving yards. That’s a positive sign for the Packers.

Skyy Moore is another receiver who should be getting more touches. Moore won two Super Bowls with the Kansas City Chiefs. His experience under Andy Reid will help him break out. Moore has 37 yards and five receptions in three games this season.

The Packers will take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. The similarity is that the Bucs are also dealing with injuries, with QB Baker Mayfield out for three weeks.
