No. 4 North Carolina Tar Heels remain undefeated as they defeated No. 24 Coastal Carolina 5-4 in the 11th inning on Tuesday night at Boshamer Stadium.
Gavin Gallaher won the game for the Tar Heels at the bottom of the 11th when he knocked a flyball deep into the center to bring the runner home.
The Tar Heels improve to 13-0 in the season. Coastal Carolina falls to 10-3. It was an exciting ACC baseball game. UNC ends 3-game losing streak to Coastal Carolina.
Tar Heels relief pitcher Dalton Padgett (2-0) earned the win with two scoreless. Coastal had chances in the top of the 10th and 11th innings but didn’t capitalize.
Luke Stevenson threw Jake Books out at home plate to keep the game tied at 4-4 in the top of the 11th.
Despite the loss, Coastal Carolina played one heck of a game. The team belted three home runs in the fourth inning by Blake Barthol, Domenico Tozzi, and Books.
There were many heroes for the Tar Heels. Jackson Hargett was responsible for delivering a two-run triple in the bottom half of the fourth inning to tie the game at 3-3.
Hargett is having one terrific season for UNC. He’s been nothing short of spectacular. Hargett is hitting .368 with eight RBIs, four extra-base hits, and six runs scored.
Ethan Kellis got an RBI sacrifice fly in the eighth inning.
The Tar Heels will play Standford this weekend. Coastal Carolina will take on East Carolina from Friday to Sunday.
