Errol Spencer Jr could return to the ring to face his next opponent, Jermell Charlo.
The 35-year-old hasn’t fought since losing to Terence Crawford in the ninth round by TKO in July 2023. Charlo, also 35, hasn’t fought since Sep 2023 when he lost his fight to Canelo Alvarez.
Neither man has been active, but they have been taking shots at each other through social media. Whether it’s for fun or not, we could see this fight happening.
Will it bring excitement? Will the fight make a lot of money? That’s complicated because both fighters are past their prime, and rustiness can factor into their possible bout.
Spencer Jr. held multiple belts from 2017 through 2023, including the WBA, WBC, and IBF titles. He has a 28-1 record, and twenty-two of his 28 wins came by knockout. Spencer weighs 147 pounds.
From 2022 to 2023, Charlo had success when he captured the undisputed championship at the light middleweight division. Charlo weighs 154 pounds and could reach 168.
He has 35 wins, two losses, and one draw. The fight ended in a draw against Brian Castaño in July 2021 at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.
While we wait for the promoters and the camps of both fighters to sort out what they will decide, we will focus on the most anticipated fight of the year, Canelo vs. Crawford, which is scheduled for September.
The Canelo/Crawford fight will occur at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada; anyone can see it on Netflix. It is the most formidable opponent Alvarez has faced since Gennady Golovkin, also known as Triple G, whom he fought three times.
