Chris Rock is on a promotional tour for his new comedy-drama film, Misty Green.

Rock serves as the director, writer, and lead actor in the new movie. Misty Green is his fourth film as a director. The cast features Rosalind Eleazer, Adam Driver, Daniel Kaluuya, Anna Kendrick, and Topher Grace.

Rock admires Rosalind’s work and would love to work with her again in the future. Rock said that she brought humanity to the role.

“Here’s what I say when I’m directing,” Rock said. “I’m directing; it’s my movie. It’s your part. I met Rosalind about a month ago. She was Misty. When she came in on the audition, she was Misty through the whole filming process. She never asked me one question that didn’t have to do with her character.”

Eleazer is also a talented singer. Throughout Rock’s career, Rock likes to be around artists who are considered, and not self-centered. He has also seen very talented artists end up destroying themselves. Rock refuses to mention names, but he would elaborate on the characteristics behind a person damaging their career.

“The self-destructive thing is a really sad thing,” Rock said. “A self-destructive person is basically a person that makes six bad decisions a year.”

Before making it big, Rock worked at places like Red Lobster. He will take Hollywood over a regular job any day.

“Are there bad parts of Hollywood? Yes,” Rock said. “But it’s still better than a normal job. I wouldn’t change it for anything.”

Bring the Pain is his 1996 stand-up special. Rock admits that he doesn’t think he can do that special today. He grew up on cable television and firmly believes in saying whatever he wants to say.

“I don’t know if I could do Bring the Pain today,” Rock said. “I’d have to compromise.”

It’s been 12 years since Rock directed a movie. His previous directorial film was Top Five, released in 2014. Top Five is a very funny movie starring Rosario Dawson and Gabrielle Union. Many top comedians appeared in the movie.

Top Five is arguably Rock’s best script. Rock received a lot of praise from critics for the screenplay and direction. Rock has a chance to deliver an even bigger one with Misty Green.

Misty Green will hit the theaters on October 9.
