Wyndham Clark wins the 2026 BMW Championship over Rory McIlroy in a hard-fought fashion on Sunday afternoon.
Clark secures his third win of the season. It’s his sixth PGA Tour career win. Clark loves to play when his back is up against the wall. Clark also defeated Scottie Scheffler at the US Open. Clark is having a great season. The more he wins, the more opportunities opens up for him.
The 32-year-old knew he had some bad shots. He knew momentum could have been gone, but he and his team had to stay patient and stick to their fundamentals to win the tournament.
“A lot of patience,” Clark said. “A lot of mental fortitude. I didn’t have it. I missed a lot of putts. I kept staying patient and building momentum.”
Clark made the putt on the 16th, which put him over the edge and made him feel good about his chances of winning the tournament.
“My swing was comfortable,” Clark said. “I would step into shots and have an intermediate target, which I always do. I was really struggling to get focused all day.”
The five-shot lead helped Clark a lot but almost blew it. When Rory bogeyed seven, Clark knew to stay calm and ease and avoid to miss any more putts.
Gary Woodland made a nice return to the golf course. He played a solid tournament this weekend. Woodland returned to the Tour Championship for the first time since 2019. Woodland had brain surgery three years ago. The warrior had to take all the time he needed before getting back into competition. Woodland moved into the Top 30.
The 32-year-old Clark knows how rowdy fans can be. Some cheer for him, and some root for him to fail. When he wins tournaments, it brings an enormous satisfaction. Clark is in the hunt for Player of the Year honors with this win.
