The New York Giants turned it around after trailing 14-3 in the first quarter against the Arizona Cardinals. The Giants were the better team from the second to the fourth quarter. Giants won 36-24.
The Giants lead the NFC East with a 3-1 record. The 1986 Giants team was in attendance. This victory makes it sweeter.
Quarterback Jameis Winston completed 18 of 29 passes for 250 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. Winston spoke with the media after the game.
“Every week I go in and prepare to be my very best,” Winston said. “I’m happy we were able to go out there and play it and pull out a win for our fans today.”
One of Winston’s touchdown passes went to tight end Theo Johnson. He’s a Penn State product. Johnson is a workhorse. He has a chance to become a Giants fan favorite with his work ethic and effort.
“Great catch by Theo, just his preparation, being ready,” Winston said. “When the opportunity presents itself, he snatches it down and puts us ahead.”
Winston is grateful for the defense. For the last two weeks, they have done a great job of picking up interceptions and applying pressure.
The coaches are doing a great job of getting the players ready each week despite the injuries on the roster, such as Jaxson Dart.
“The preparation, the consistency, the congruency of myself, the receivers, tight ends, running backs, and the coaching staff is a process that never stops; we always keep growing,” Winston said.
Winston feels that he’s starting to get better. He’s still curious and inspired to be the best no matter what the media thinks of him. He doesn’t blame others. We see a lot of positive attitude in him.
It’s beautiful when you say the Giants find a way,” Winston said.
Fumbles are a problem for the Giants. They have to keep the ball off the ground. They still have a lot of cleaning up to do. Special teams came up huge in this game. We need to see the special teams play like this more often.
The Giants will play the Washington Commanders on the road next Sunday.
