Edmonton Oilers falls to the New Jersey Devils 3-2 after allowing goals in the third period at Prudential Center.
Oilers fall to 37-24-4. Devils improve to 36-25-6.
Devils goaltender Jake Allen made 31 saves for the team. He played a terrific game on the net. Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner made 19 saves.
Skinner had a good night, but those two goals in the third period should’ve never happened. The Oilers’ defense also failed him.
Oilers grabbed a 2-1 lead in the third period after Evan Bouchard scored on a wrist shot. When Bouchard scored the goal, it felt as if the momentum was entirely on the Oilers’ side.
The Devils had other thoughts. Jesper Bratt tied the game. Moments later, Simon Nemec gave the Devils the lead. Allen made 18 big stops in the third. This is a Devils team that was missing its defenseman, Dougie Hamilton, and its top scorer, Jack Hughes.
This is an impressive comeback win by the Devils. They have won three in a row. As for the Oilers, Leon Draisaitl scored a goal for the Oilers. He leads the league with 47 goals. In addition, he has a 16-game point streak.
Connor McDavid added two assists for the Oilers. He extends his point streak to nine games.
The Oilers continue their East Coast road trip. On Friday night, they will face the New York Islanders.
