Edmonton Oilers got a big win on the road in Game 5 with a 3-1 over the Los Angeles Kings. The Oilers take a 3-2 series lead.
Andre Kuzmenko opened up the scoring for the Kings in the second period with a power play goal. Anze Kopitar and Adrian Kempe picked up the assist. Kuzmenko scored his third goal of the postseason.
Evander Kane would respond when he scored a goal to put the Oilers on the board and tied the game 1-1 in the same period. It’s Kane’s second goal of the postseason.
In the third period, Mattias Janmark scored the game’s biggest goal when he put the puck in the net from the left side. The Oilers grabbed their first lead of the game. The goal was Janmark’s second of the postseason.
Ryan Nugent Hopkins scored in an empty net to put the dagger in the game. Connor McDavid got his eighth assist of the postseason. Leon Draisaitl got his seventh assist of the series.
Oilers goaltender Calvin Pickard saved 21 of 22 shots. Kings goaltender Darcy Kuemper had a terrific game and did everything he could to help the Kings win. Kuemper made 43 saves.
The Kings delivered 59 hits compared to the Oilers’ 46 hits. The Kings won 59 percent of the face-offs. However, the Oilers had more shots on goal than the Kings (46 to 22). The Oilers have outshot the Kings 79-35 since the start of the third period of Game 4.
The series goes back to Edmonton as the Oilers are looking to close out the series at home for Game 6 on Thursday night.
