The Odyssey has officially opened with $264.1M worldwide. It’s the Biggest opening for a live-action movie in 2026 so far.
The movie is one of the most anticipated films of the year. Director Christopher Nolan continues to make his fans proud of his work. He’s one of the best in the industry right now. There’s a lot of momentum riding on him. His film is the 2nd biggest opening ever, and it’s the third biggest opening ever for an R-rated film.
A couple of days ago, the leading man of the movie, Matt Damon, went around to promote the movie in one of the interviews, which happened in New York for the “Today” show. Damon was asked about where he would rank this movie in terms of overcoming challenges to bring it to life. Damon is no stranger to taking on challenging roles, as he has done with movies such as The Martian, Interstellar, and many other projects.
“This is the hardest by far,” Damon said. “Nothing comes close. Chris does everything in camera. It’s all practical. We shot it all in IMAX, which has never been done before. The effort it took from thousands of people and the crew, I’ve never seen more asked of a crew. Everyone is experienced with this movie; we could look over at other departments and go, ” Man, I’ve never seen that department do that before. The feeling it built was this incredible kind of team ethos that really carried throughout the entire production.”
It’s the third collaboration between Damon and Nolan. Their first one was Interstellar, Oppenheimer, and now The Odyssey. In the new movie, Damon stars as Odysseus, the Greek King of Ithaca, navigating a long, perilous journey home after the Trojan War.
The Odyssey has received 95 percent on 374 reviews from Rotten Tomatoes. Many people are praising the sound, visuals, and storyline. The Odyssey runs for 2 hours and 52 minutes. It’s a solid cast joining Damon, including actors Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, John Leguizamo, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, Elliot Page, and Tom Holland.
