The Detroit Red Wings lost to the Seattle Kraken on Friday night at Little Caesars Arena, and now they lost to the Montreal Canadiens on the road on Saturday night, 1-0. The Canadiens won in a shootout.

The Red Wings and Kraken will meet only twice this season. The Red Wings lost the first game and were outplayed in the second and third. Seattle finished with five unanswered goals.

Seattle struggled to win at Little Caesars Arena. Before Friday’s win, the Kraken hadn’t won in the building since October 2023. The Kraken led the series 5-3-3. Their next meeting will be on Oct. 20.

Detroit’s core players must be five or even ten steps ahead to have a successful season.

Red Wings defenseman Viktor Arvidsson is one of the team’s most important players. Arvidsson is still waiting for a contract extension. In the meantime, he’ll want to show up in every game and prove to the front office he’s worth every penny. Arvidsson has four points this season.

Dylan Larkin made his season debut against the Senators. He’s been the offseason’s central story. In this game, he gave fans something to cheer for. Larkin also finished with two points. Larkin gave the Red Wings the first-period lead with a wrist shot.

When Larkin is focused and healthy, he’s one of the team’s best. Fans hope for a change of heart from Larkin.

One key to the Red Wings’ success is power play and delivering hits. The Red Wings did both on Tuesday against the Senators. Red Wings went 2-for-5 in power-play possessions.

Alex DeBrincat and Lucas Raymond are doing the little things that help the team out. DeBrincat is the ultimate unselfish player on this roster. He leads the team in points (5).

Raymond and Moritz Seider haven’t scored a goal yet this season. Hopefully that changes in their next game against the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday, Oct. 14.

The Red Wings are looking to end their two-game losing skid. They are 1-4.
