‘The Social Reckoning‘ didn’t have a strong box office weekend. The sequel to ‘The Social Network‘ earned an estimated $5.5 million at the North American box office from 2,606 theaters.
Aaron Sorkin directed and wrote the movie. Sorkin won for Original Screenplay for the first movie. The film stars Jeremy Strong as Mark Zuckerberg, along with Jeremy Allen White and Mikey Madison. Sorkin replaced David Fincher as director. Fincher directed the first movie.
‘The Social Network’ opened at No. 1 with $22.4 million in October 2010. Overall, the film reached $224 million globally. ‘The Social Reckoning’ ranked No. 5 at the box office this weekend. The horror film, Other Mommy, landed at No. 1 at the box office. Verity, Resident Evil, and Heart of the Beast followed.
Based on 207 reviews, Rotten Tomatoes rated the sequel 55 percent. As for audience reviews, based on more than 250 reviews, the movie got a 73 percent. Audiences see movies very differently than film critics. The movie got mixed reviews. The movie didn’t deliver on expectations or fulfill its promise. People expected so much more, especially since everything Sorkin writes turns to gold, plus a talented cast.
Sometimes, scripts, plots, and certain directing styles won’t pan out the way the crowd wants. As great as Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino are as filmmakers, they have had scripts and movies that didn’t turn out great. In any profession, especially Hollywood, you win some, you lose some. Some movies will hit out of the ballpark, and some will stay in the ballpark.
For the audience that gave the movie reviews, some can’t understand why the film is rated poorly. Some crowds find the movie engaging and praise the cinematography. Some comments also say the movie takes the moviegoer on a rollercoaster with plot twists. Rumors also suggest the movie was boring in certain parts and dragged.
It comes down to the person and their taste. People should see the movie for themselves, not rely on critics or what people are saying online. Be your own judge.
