Chick-fil-A is the third-largest food chain in America. Everywhere you go, there’s a line.

CEO Andrew Cathy joined NBC’s Today show to discuss his plans for the food chain, pricing, and other factors behind what Chick-fil-A is all about and why it draws people.

Cathy became CEO of the company in 2021. Chick-fil-A’s history goes all the way back to Georgia.

The business started in Georgia with his grandfather. A family business is special. The restaurant has remained a private family business. Cathy follows in his grandfather’s and father’s footsteps. The business has been around for decades.

The Cathy’s are a family of faith. They stay faithful and keep the restaurant closed on Sundays.

“My grandfather, my brother Ben when they started that little restaurant back in Atlanta, it was very common back in the 1940s that a lot of places were closed on Sunday,” Cathy said. “They had to do that. They wanted to have a chance to take a break, go to church, and for others to take a rest.”

With success comes some scrutiny; Chick-fil-A came under fire in 2012 when many reports came out about the company dropping charities after LGBT protests. Also, Chick-fil-A donated $2 million to anti gay groups in one year. The topic became very controversial.

Cathy said this in response to the crowd protesting against his business.

“For anybody that hasn’t tried us, we would love for you to come try us and have our great-tasting food and the hospitality that we’re known for,” Cathy said.

Cathy focuses on delivering great service and hospitality. The company also focuses on charity, supporting people experiencing homelessness and donating enough food for those in need. Since 2020, Chick-fil-A have contribute over 200 million meals. That’s fantastic humanitarian work by Cathy and the rest of the team. That’s true leadership.
