The U.S. Presidents Cup team showed resilience to win the event, defeating the International Team 17-13 on Sunday.
It marks the 11th consecutive Presidents Cup title for the United States. Team captain Brandt Snedeker knows how tough it was to lead the group, and he credits his players for never giving up.
“These guys never gave up,” Snedeker said. “They believed in each other. They did a hell of a job.”
This is a close group. They fought hard to win. Brandt is beyond proud of the team. It was a stressful week for him. The weight of the captain is immense. Decisions are a big part of wearing the captaincy hat.
“Super happy for the rookies,” Snedeker said. “Your first time being on a team is special.”
Xander Schauffele spoke up about Snedeker feeling that he was letting the team down or wasn’t holding up his end of the bargain. Snedeker was being hard on himself all week.
“We knew where he was mentally all week,” Schaffeule said. “We played hard for him today. That’s all we could do regardless of the outcome.”
All of the golfers took it personally and worked extremely hard for him, and they did. The players were super locked in and very competitive. The players were ready for the stage, especially the younger players.
The U.S. players knew how it felt to lose in the Ryder Cup. This weekend’s victory brought real satisfaction. There’s nothing like watching the sport’s best players compete on the same team to bring a title home. It feels like the Olympics.
The Americans won nine of the 12 matches. The team’s youngest player, Jackson Koivun, 21, will never forget this moment. He has a bright future on the PGA Tour.
